Turkish Airlines, a sponsor of the Turkish Ice Hockey Federation, is noted for being more lenient with excess baggage fees for sports equipment, which is critical for teams like Luxembourg. The team’s equipment, including helmets, skates, sticks, and protective gear, often exceeds standard baggage weight limits (23–32 kg per Turkish Airlines’ policy), leading to high additional costs. These fees can strain the team’s budget, especially as they aim to avoid relegation while managing rising travel expenses. Alain Schneider, president of the Luxembourg Ice Hockey Federation, highlighted that Turkish Airlines’ flexibility helps mitigate these financial and logistical burdens, making travel to the tournament more feasible.
